Test 1a.
Depending your ability, I have provided two sets of test
lists to choose from (40 items in one and 20 in the other). You
can vary the time taken, according to your ability. The goal is
to fail! giving yourself at least a 50% - 75% failure rate. You
may be surprised just how good your memory really is. Consequently,
I strongly suggest that everyone use the 40 item list. To put
it plainly, I have found it usually blows people away when they
can only recall 7 to 15 items, and then, after completing the
simple exercise that follows, getting 27 - 40 right! This first
test is to give you a baseline from which you can compare and
observe any change in your performance.
- 1) Timing is not as important as the amount you can accurately
recall from the lists in numerical order (with its corresponding
number). Give yourself a maximum period of 10 minutes on the
40 item list or 5 minutes on the 20 item list. Try to memorize
the list in order. If you have a good memory, shorten the time
accordingly.

- 2) We will now try to distract you for several minutes. In
that time, try not to think about what you have just tried to
learn. This is to see how well you can access from long term
memory.
